FV 5K & 10K to support Olly's Future
Updated: Sep 6
As I write this it's almost exactly a month until the Findon Valley 5K and 10K (not forgetting the mini-mile for the kids!), events now in their third year and going from strength to strength.
If you haven't yet signed up, there's still plenty of time. We welcome all running abilities, and everyone who participates will receive a medal to commemorate their run. The route will be the same as last a year - a beautiful ascent across Cissbury Fields, round the back of Cissbury Ring, and back again. There are some really special, spectacular views along the way, whatever the weather. You can register using the link below - the kids mini-mile is free to enter, the 5K is £12 and the 10K £18.
The FVRA run these events in part to raise money for the Findon Valley Residents' Association itself, money that we use to fund local initiatives to help ensure the Valley remains such a lovely place to live. But we also have used the 5K & 10K as an opportunity to raise awareness of other charities close to our hearts too.

This year we are raising money for Olly's Future, a suicide prevention charity with its roots here in Worthing. The charity was established in loving memory of Oliver Hare, a bright, caring, and talented young man from Worthing who tragically took his own life in February 2017 at just 22 years old. Following his passing, Olly’s mother, Ann Feloy, along with a group of Olly’s close friends, came together to build a legacy of hope, love, and light out of unimaginable heartbreak.
Since its foundation, Olly’s Future has grown into a powerful force for change, delivering life-saving suicide prevention training to thousands of people across the UK. Their work focuses on equipping individuals and communities with the skills, confidence, and compassion needed to talk openly about mental health and step in when someone is in distress.
Their impactful initiatives include:
Dr SAMS (Suicide Awareness in Medical Students): Pioneering suicide prevention training embedded into medical school curriculums so future doctors are better prepared to spot warning signs and offer support.
Practise Hope: A initiative partnered with Sussex Partnership NHS Trust to help GP practices improve how they support young people (aged 10–25) who are experiencing self-harm or suicidal thoughts.
Community & Workplace Training: CPD-accredited suicide prevention workshops (such as TAS10 and ASIST) provided to universities, schools, workplaces, and local communities.
The FVRA will be making a donation from the proceeds of the 5K & 10K to Olly's Future. You can also donate directly to Olly's Future here. By lacing up your running shoes and taking part in this year’s Findon Valley 5K or 10K, every step you take will help fund these vital, life-saving programmes. Suicide touches so many families and communities, but through awareness, open conversation, and early intervention, lives can be saved.
Whether you're pushing for a PB or walking the course to take in the views over Cissbury Ring, your support makes a real difference to our local community and beyond.

Let’s come together, enjoy a fantastic day on the Downs, and support a cause that brings hope and protection to young lives.
